"Sir Winston Churchill" The British Sail Training Association schooner "Sir Winston Churchill", is a 150 foot top sail schooner with 55 hands, built in 1966 in Hessel, Yorkshire, England. This schooner is a training vessel for 39 cadets (mail or female) age 16-24. These cadets go on two week cruises nine months out of the year. Five permanent crew and eleven volunteers or "afterguard" train the cadets. The "Sir Winston Churchill" caused quite a sensation when she turned up with an all-girl crew of trainees in the 1972 Tall Ships Race. The "Sir Winston Churchill" is owned by the British Sail Training Association.
